Users and access
Create the accounts of the people who use your app, set their role, switch them off, and copy them to the live app.
The Users tab manages the people who can sign in to your app. It works on both copies of the app: Dev, the working copy in the preview, and Prod, the live app. The switch at the top picks one. Prod shows only once the app is live.
Create a user#
Click New user. Give an email, a role, and a password: type one, or let the portal generate one.
The portal shows the password once, with two buttons: Copy password, and Copy the access text. The access text holds everything the person needs: the app's name, its address, their email and their password. Send it to them the way you prefer. The portal keeps the password nowhere after you close the window.
Manage a user#
The list has a search box, filters on the role and on access, and pages. Each row's menu can:
- set a new password (shown once, like a new account);
- change the role;
- switch the account off, or on again;
- delete the account, after a confirmation that names it.
Switching an account off ends its open sessions at once and refuses its next sign in. Its data stays.
Copy Dev users to the live app#
While the app is live, a Dev row's menu has Copy to prod, and the toolbar has Copy all to prod. A confirmation says how many accounts it copies. An email that already exists in the live app is updated.
The copy carries each password in its protected form, never in clear. A person signs in to the live app with the same password as in Dev. The result says how many accounts were created, updated, or failed.
Who can reach the live app#
By default, anyone who knows the address reaches the sign in page, and the app's own sign in is the gate. You can also limit the live app to a list of internet addresses. See App settings.
Roles and rules#
What a role can see and change is part of your app, written as server rules by the agents from your requests. To change what a role can do, send a request: "staff see only the orders of their own site". See Ask for a change.
